1972 Honda CB175 cafe bike.
It's been two years since I've built the cb160. Getting a scratch again. So I picked up a $100 fixer.

Initial teardown, cleaning, sanding, buffing, etc.
cleaned carbs:
cleaned forks and front wheel:
parts to be cleaned:
my makeshift parts cleaner. simple green and water in a basin. what more do you need?
I used fishing tackle boxes to organize small parts:

Here it is with CL handlebars, CL exhaust and CL front fender. Also, it has a CB200t tank and seat. Both are needed to fit properly on the CB175 frame which is essentially the same. Missing the headlight and tail light.
6-02-09:
Here it is the way I will probably ride it the rest of the summer:
* cb400f handlebars
* cb175 front and rear fenders
* cb200t tank and seat
* early cb175 tail light bracket and aftermarket cb160 taillight. I like the smaller lights.
* cut off 10" from stock mufflers and bolted in fabricated end caps from the stock baffle caps. Sounds great!
* airpod filters.
* removed turn signals.
* since this pic, I've removed the sidestand and went with just the centerstand. It leans too much for my taste.
Still waiting on bar end mirrors and an orange tank. This tank is for
Philip. My son has a cb200t he is rebuilding.
6-10-09:
Here is my orange tank and bar end mirrors. I've since put an original cb200t seat. This one is recovered and also belongs to Philips bike.
I've also removed the rear fender and just mounted the brake light to
some custom brackets.
CB400f bars with the bar end mirrors.
Closeup of the air pod filters. I got the boots from a hardware store. They are just adapters.
The plate is mounted on an aluminum bracket to the right side lower shock bolt.
The end caps for the megaphones have been welded in since they keep breaking. The bolt-in version shown here vibrated too much.
6-11-09:
I didn't like the big fender look nor the NO fender look. So, I took the old Sawzall and did some cuttin up!
Here are some shots of it outside. Also, here you see the different seat
with the original cover and removed strap.
So far, runs great! I've removed the kickstart arm since it is loose. The electric start works fine. There is a slight leak at the tach drive that I am trying to chase down. I think it is the oil seal at the cable.
During the summer, I will just clean up the rust on the frame and paint it with Rustoleum enamel. The philips screws will be replaced with stainless hex screws.
This winter, I will plan to rebuild the motor and do more paint on the black parts. I need to get better shocks, change to cb200t forks and get new Avon AM26 tires. Upgrades planned will include Pertronix electronic ignition trigger unit, Dyna coils, alloy rims and a front cb160 hub (180mm versus 160mm). I may also change the rear brake hub to the CB160 cable version.
