1975 Honda CB400r - club racer [page 3]
4-04-03: New Pro-Flo clip-ons mounted and the hand controls from the 900rr!
I used NOS grips with the ends cut off for standard bar end caps/weights. Looks cleaner.
4-11-03: Here is the front fork rebuild in progress:
I've had the fork lowers tumbled and clear powdercoated. Then, I replaced the seals, installed the Works Performance spring kit with the middle crossover tube and installed the Daytona fork brace. Note that the fork lowers are reversed as I plan to trail mount the calipers for better weight placement.
4-19-03: I hope to get the rear hub laced soon. Still waiting for rear rim to be polished. I have Buchanans heavy duty spoke kit. It does not fit the hub as it is too thick. I'll need to drill all the holes 1/32" bigger.
4-30-03: I got the rear rim back plus 2 extra DID rims for spares. Those rims are plus one size up. This time I get the rear rim laced up in 1 hour. I'm getting better! Ok, now I'm thinking to go back to the race frame again. It's better in several respects, it has the rearset brackets welded on and all the open seams are welded close. Also, since it's still not powdercoated, I can weld on a bracket for the steering damper. So, I take the forks and swingarm off the stock frame and put it on the race frame. I also put the tank and rearsets. Since the rims are all laced up, I mounted them too. Here’s a shot of it all:
ROLLING CHASSIS!
The seat is a little too high! It was propped up with a piece of wood, but you get the idea! Looking good! I also checked the ergonomics. Fits great! Next up, I need to true the wheels so I need a truing stand. I am planning to build one from a spare swingarm. Also, I will be prepping the motor for blasting and spraying. Stay tuned!
