1994 Honda CBR900rr

Here is my 900rr and I when it was in its full bodywork glory. I’m experimenting with my other hobby – photography.

Here is the 900rr being parted out.  I plan to keep only the frame and motor to build a streetfighter.  See below:

900rr frame & motor 01

As I am more partial to naked bikes, I plan to build a radical version of the Honda 919 Hornet.

Possible future mods include:

1. VFR single sided swingarm.

2. Honda inverted 43mm cartridge fork front end via RC51, 929 or 954.

3. Newly revised triple clamp with improved offset.

4. The usual clip-ons via Vortex or other.

5. Marchesini or other wheels.

6. Custom solo seat and subframe.

7. Custom 900rr/919 Hornet tank - reshaped as the 900rr tank is too bulbous.

This is what I would envision but with the 900rr frame:

Here the bike now sports the new front end, new Avons spooned onto RC51 rims and an RC51 tail cowl.

11-01-03:

A view from the cockpit.  954rr clip-ons with a mix of 954rr and 900rr switches and lever assemblies.

A few shots around the bike with the 98 900rr tank (re-contoured over the early 94-95 versions) and 954 front fender.

A view of the 900rr heal guard.  I added a few more holes with my vintage drill press.  Note the Sprocket Specialties 520 gear set and new chain!

4-07-04:

She's all done now!   I've done a 50 mile shakedown and nothing blew up or fell apart!!  The jetting (Factory Airbox Plus Kit) and gearing (one down in front and 1 up in back) makes a huge difference.  Power wheelies are too easy but controllable.  No clutch needed anymore.  Handling is much better, more stable and more flickable.

Here are some shots from 2 weeks ago before the carb jetting (notice no carbs?), tach, rear tail light and turns.

I'll be putting a bump pad for the tail to cover up most of the broken area.  Notice the 919 headlight, Lockhart HL brackets, 919 left side cooling hose/cover?  Also, now it has the stock tach removed and installed into a polished Magna housing, front and center - cool!

Here is the new spec sheet as the build stands now:

1. 02 954 forks, triples & clip-ons.

2. 01 RC51 front and rear rims.

    * Swingarm & rear brake bracket is machined to accept rear rim with 25mm axle.

    * Front rim uses 954 25mm axle and bearings..

3. New Azaro touring tires.

4. '01 RC51 tailpiece and cover, modified to fit cut down 900rr sub-frame.

5. 98 900rr Erion fuel tank.  Adapted to fit.

6. Sprocket Specialties 520 chain, SS sprockets in 15/44 ratio (stock = 16/43).  This is equal to 16/46 or +3 in back.

7. New Kerker K45 White Tip full exhaust.

8. 98 900rr rearset assemblies.

9. 94 900rr front and rear calipers.  Surprisingly, these calipers fit!  The rear rotor is also 94, but bolts right up to the RC51 rim!

10. 01 954 rotors.  There is a mix of a black on one side and gold on another.  My buddy, Geoff, gave me two sets and I picked the two straightest.

11. Stock rear shock re-valved at Aftershocks.

12. 96 900rr Sergeant custom seat.

13. 919 headlight & left side cooling hose/cover.

14. Factory Airbox Plus jetting and air box kit.

15. Right side Hindsight billet bar end mirror.

16. Sigma BC800 electronic speedometer.

17. Steering damper, mounted to left side frame spar.

18. Custom rear tail light, LP aluminum front turns, BMW side turn signals for rear, & under-tail license plate.

19. Stock tach installed into a polished V65 Magna housing, mounted centered on upper triple.

My plans for the future include:

1. Carbon fiber hugger.

2. Frame and swingarm sliders.

3. Sato rearsets & clip-ons, maybe TBR adjustables?

4. Revalve front forks - RaceTech or Aftershocks?

5. Custom mounted 3 bag Givi setup for touring.
